HOW I READ BLOODWORK
_edited.jpg)
-
What's the process from when I pay?So once you've followed the link and made payment it will look like this: You will receive a welcome email with the information sheet, liability waiver and then a link to get your bloods done if you need. I will only read bloods that are MAX 2 months old. If you want to flick me some bloodwork you already have, and I can let you know if they will be sufficient or not in terms of markers they tested for and/or age of the test then that's perfectly fine! Follow to blood prerequisites in the email and go and get your bloods done. Once you have these back (usually within 48 hours) please email me your results and I will be in contact to book our consult in Consult will be booked in via Zoom so please make sure that you have Zoom downloaded and ready to go before.

Why do I need bloodwork? If you’re looking to get to the bottom of anything gut related, hormone imbalances, chronic fatigue, nutrient deficiencies, improve your general health, wellbeing or performance then you need your bloodwork analysed.
-
My doctor said my last bloods were fine?I use very different ranges from your doctor. The doctor uses ranges to identify concerns for major chronic health conditions. If you are outside of their ranges for some blood markers then you may need to be referred to a specialist. Whereas my ranges are a lot smaller and aim for optimal health. Some of the markers you might be in “normal” ranges with the doctor but on mine you may be high/low. It's worth noting that doctors aren't trained in gut health, female health, nutrition, training or optimising performance.
-
What can you read from bloodwork?I can assess for nutritional status via vitamin, mineral and protein levels. Energy and metabolism through glucose, cholesterol, thyroid function and complete red blood cell panel. Hormonal health through all major nutrients as well as how your body is handling stress Gut and digestive health through over 15 different blood markers. When reading bloodwork, it isn’t as simple as “this marker is high, it must mean this”, I use several different other markers to confirm and cross-examine to ensure my results is accurate.
-
Can I work with another coach and get bloodwork done by you?Yep! With my consultation option you will be able to work with your current coach while getting some bloodwork done through me. If there are recommendations I need to make with nutrition and training then I can either get you to mention it to them or contact them directly.
-
Do I need to go to the GP to get my bloods done?Nope. You can if you want to, but I find that they don’t test for everything I need meaning that you will be paying to get your bloods read by me and there might be some key markers missing. I use an independent lab and you can find what I test for here: https://pathdirect.fillout.com/lewisgreatheadpt
-
Do I need to do anything before a blood test?I do have some requirements that need to be met to ensure the test is as accurate as possible. These are: Test needs to be done first thing in the morning Fasted for no longer than 16 hours No training 48 hours before the test No supplements 48 hours before the test At least 1L of water consumed the morning of the test No coffee or stimulants morning of the test
-
How often should I get bloodwork done?I’d recommend at the bare minimum once a year but ideally twice a year 6 months apart. Your bloodwork can change quite a lot during that time. If you’re doing a gut protocol then I’d recommend testing before and after that.
-
Can you tell if I have food sensitivities from bloodwork?I can see inflammation from gluten and overall inflammation which might be caused from foods but not specific foods directly. I’m not the biggest fan of food sensitivity tests as its just a reflection of what your gut can’t handle at that moment in time. I’ve had clients have issues with some foods and then after working together be able to reintroduce some of those foods back in.
-
How long does it take to get my bloods back? The lab I use gets their results back to you within 24-48 hours. It then takes me around 4-5 business days to go through them as I look over them a few times to make sure I haven’t missed anything.
-
What if my blood test comes back all clear?I’ve read over 500 blood test and I haven’t once looked at some bloods and thought that they didn’t need improving. Markers can always be tweaked and optimized.
-
How do you read bloods compared to my doctor?I view bloods through a different lens, a functional lens. My ranges are more fine-tuned based on current research and striving for optimal health. For example, if you go to the doctor wanting to get your iron checked, they will test for ferritin. If you record a 35 on your bloods they will go “yep your iron is in range” as their range is 30-200, whereas my range is 50-100. I will dig a little deeper to try and find the root cause of your low iron. Is it because you have heavy periods and we need to address that first, is it low stomach acid affecting the absorption, is it Vitamin C or copper deficiency that we need to address, do you have something gut-related going on such as a parasite that could be causing the low iron? When analyzing bloodwork, I ask myself these questions to truly get to the bottom of it and find the root cause.
-
Can bloodwork help with managing PCOS/Endo/Menopause?Yep! I can identify key nutrients and markers that may be causing your hormones to not function optimally. I’ve helped many clients overcome and manage all of these conditions.
